National Parks of Bangladesh: A Day in the lap of Nature
Bangladesh means rivers, fields, green rice fields and bustling village life. But somewhere hidden within this busy life are some quiet, secluded, and incredibly beautiful places — the national parks of Bangladesh.
These are not just a refuge for forest plants or wildlife; they are also a haven of peace and tranquility for humans.
When I first went to Laochhara National Park, I felt like I had entered another world. Surrounded by mountains covered in mist, the chirping of crickets, and the horizon green. That day I understood — in Bangladesh, you don’t have to go far to love nature.
The concept of a national park: Why is it needed?
A national park means an area where the natural environment, animals, plants, and biodiversity are preserved.

Major National Parks of Bangladesh
Let’s take a look at some of the notable national parks of our country one by one.
1.Lawachara National Park (Sylhet)
Lawachhara National Park is located in the Madhabpur area of Sylhet. This forest surrounded by mountains is like a dreamland. There are rows of huge trees, rare species of birds, and the fragrance of wild flowers.
Travel Tips:
- If you go early in the morning, you can see flocks of various birds.
- If you walk along the trail, you may suddenly see monkeys or chameleons.
- It is better to take a guide, because it is easy to get lost in the forest.
Special Experience: While walking on the secluded path of Laochhara, it feels like time has stopped. The chirping of birds, the sound of leaves, and the smell of soil — all together a unique peace.
2. Satchari National Park (Habiganj)
Located in Chunarughat, Habiganj, this park is a dream place for nature lovers. As the name suggests, there are seven small mountain streams (small rivers).
Rare species of sal trees, lawal, kathbadam, and about 200 species of birds are found here.
Travel Tips:
- The best time to go is in the morning or afternoon.
- Don’t forget to take a camera — there are great opportunities to take pictures of birds.
- The Rema-Kalenga Reserve Forest is nearby, and if you want, you can visit two places in one day.
Experience: Once, while walking along the Satchari trail on a rainy day, I saw that the water accumulated on the leaves of the trees suddenly fell on my head — as if nature was welcoming me with its own hands.
3. Bhawal National Park (Gazipur)
Located just an hour from Dhaka, Bhawal National Park is like a storehouse of oxygen for tired city dwellers.
There are vast forests, picnic spots, and trekking trails here. Family, friends, or office tours — a perfect place for everyone.
Travel Tips:
- If you go in the morning, there are fewer crowds, and you can enjoy the true form of nature.
- It is better to bring your own food, but keep the area clean.
- You can go around by bicycle — a very popular activity.
Experience: The sunlight casts shadows among the trees of Bhawal, creating a magical scene. Sitting with a cup of tea in hand, you will understand what peace of nature is.
4. Kaptai National Park (Rangamati)
Located between the hills and the lake of Rangamati, Kaptai National Park is like a natural paradise.
Established in 1999, this park has about 500 species of plants, more than 100 birds, and a wildlife sanctuary.
Travel Tips:
- You can rent a boat to travel to Kaptai Lake.
- You can visit the local tribal villages and learn about their culture.
- The experience of watching the sunset over the lake in the evening is extraordinary.
Experience: The blue water of the lake, the green shade of the mountains, and the play of clouds – Kaptai is a place where every moment will be remembered for a lifetime.
5. Madhupur National Park (Tangail)
This forest of Madhupur Garh is part of the history and nature of Bangladesh. Forests, wildlife, and Garo tribal culture — all in all, this is a unique experience.
There are deer, jackals, wild boars, and hundreds of species of birds here.
Travel Tips:
- You can learn the stories of the forest better by hiring a local guide.
- If you go to the Garo village, you can collect their handmade products.
- Bicycle tours are quite popular.
Experience: When cycling on the paved path of the Madhupur forest, when the sunlight melts through the gaps in the trees, it seems — this is the true beauty of Bangladesh.
Why should you visit a national park?
Visiting a national park is not just about picnics; it is about understanding nature, preserving it, and finding inner peace.
They remind us — humans are part of nature, not its owners.
When you visit each park, you can learn the stories of local people, taste new foods, and most importantly — take a breather in your busy life.
Some important tips for travelers
- Be aware of nature conservation — don’t throw any garbage.
- Don’t touch trees or animals; just watch and enjoy.
- Respect local culture and people.
- Take photos in the early morning or afternoon light to get the best frames.
- And most importantly — take your time to feel the peace that nature wants to give you.
Final words
Bangladesh’s national parks are not just a home for plants or animals, they are a priceless gift of nature to our future generations.
If we can find some time in today’s busy life to meet nature, then maybe we will regain our inner balance.
As the forest of Laochara has taught me — “Returning to the lap of nature means returning to ourselves.”
